Freedom is in the Mind

Freedom

As I was finishing up my run this morning, I chuckled because of my running get up.  I don’t use running sneakers (too hard on the knees).  Instead I run in water shoes.  Yep, those rubber shoes with the nylon mesh top.  Water shoes have no heel cushion and force me to run on the pads of my feet rather than the more traditional heel-toe action. Running on foot pads keep knees very happy.

Anyway, as I was leaving the running track I realized I was awash in color.  This morning I grabbed my pale blue water shoes and my bright (I mean screaming bright) yellow shirt.  This is all complimented by my recently dyed cranberry red hair.  At least I had the good sense to wear navy blue exercise pants.

When I thought about my getup, I stood a little taller and walked a little prouder. Many years ago I would have tried to be a little more acceptable in my dress.  Now, I’ve finally grown into myself and am free to be me.

The funny thing is that no one or no thing was keeping me in bondage. I pushed myself into bondage by following what I thought others did and by trying to be like the “in crowd.”  I’ve finally come to the conclusion that the in crowd doesn’t have a clue and I’d rather not be a member.  How freeing is that?

As Mark Twain said, “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect.”

Update: LOL 🙂 !  You won’t believe the quote that was sent to my inbox this morning.  I subscribe to Brian Tracy’s quote of the day and this was today’s quote:

“Knowing thyself is the height of wisdom.”
— Socrates
