Mini Vacations

Published: April 30, 2006

Does it get any better than this?

It’s early in the morning, the sun is shining the trees are blooming (achoo), birds are chirping, the coffee is hot, the children, hubby and dog are all asleep, the computer does not require a re-boot. Man, it just doesn’t get any better.

Sometimes we just have to take the time to smell the roses (achoo). Turn a deaf ear to the laundry that is screaming to be washed and the various and assorted other things that must be done. They’ll keep until the mini-vacation is over.

I find that in order to be fully fueled for the day, a mini-vacation is required. Sometimes I’m spoiled and my vacation can last for as long as a half-hour. Other times its only 15 minutes. The one thing that I am assured of is that I’m fully in the moment for those 15 or so minutes. No thoughts on what needs to be done or what should have been done.

It’s actually the perfect all-inclusive vacation. No need to cook or look after the children or hear hubby complain because there are no sports to watch. No need to find a pre-vacation kennel for Fido. No excessive dirty laundry when the vacation is over. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

Rest assured, out of a busy 24-hour cycle, there is a minimum of 15 minutes that are mine, all mine, to do with it whatever I want and to fully enjoy. Woe to those around me if I miss my vacation. It could get pretty ugly.

Ooops, I hear the pitter-patter of feet. Vacation is over. Oh well, it was great while it lasted. Remember to take time and smell the flowers (achoo).

That's my two cents and I'm sticking with it.
