Don't Forget to Invest in Yourself

Published: October 8, 2014

Successful businesses become successful because they allocate a portion of their profits towards reinvesting in the business. Similarly, successful people become successful because they spend time retooling or developing themselves to rise to the next level. In order to obtain something you’ve never had before, you have to become someone you’ve never been before. In other words, you have to take some time to invest in yourself.

Investing in yourself doesn't always mean a financial investment. You can begin your road to improvement without spending a dime. Here are three examples of non-financial investments that can yield great results and help you rise to the next level:

  • Become a patron of your local library. Libraries today are much different from the days of old. Many libraries offer downloadable digital media in conjunction with paper and audiobooks. You can become an expert in any field by selecting, reading and learning from library books.
  • Select better food. You are what you eat. What better investment is there than eating nutrient-rich, high-quality food. This doesn’t mean you have to run out and spend a fortune on tons of organic food. What it does mean is you must make wiser choices. Think before you eat that hot dog and wash it down with a vanilla shake. Over time you’ll feel better and may even notice that some of the niggling chronic ailments you’ve been suffering from beginning to diminish.
  • Nurture your soul. Whether you pray, meditate or take a walk in nature, nurturing your soul leads to a sense of calmness, focus and well-being. The person who is able to maintain calm in calamitous situations is the person who usually ends up being looked at as the leader.

Your brand new expertise (compliments of the local library), increase in energy and ability to remain calm and focused when all around you are losing their heads will do much to open up new and rewarding opportunities. It all begins with the decision to invest in yourself.
